Year In Review | 2024 - Part 1 | Calgary and Banff Documentary Wedding Photographers

April already? Well, better late than never. It’s Year-In-Review time!

2024 can be described as steady. We were overall much busier than 2023 (a year that we intentionally slowed down), but we managed to find that fine line of balance between work and play as a lot of our bookings were evenly spread out. For play - we bounced between both coasts in Canada - Newfoundland in the Spring, and BC’s Sunshine Coast in the Fall. It goes without saying, but we’ve got a pretty stunning Country and there are endless places to explore!

Last year also saw us hit the 10 year milestone in our marriage (2014 does seem like a loooong time ago lol). Fate brought us together a few years earlier, and right from the start photography was a big theme in our relationship. Kevin was working as a Biologist and Kendal at a Marketing Agency, but our time together was always with a camera in hand. We would go for nerdy photo walks, create random competitions for ourselves and before we knew it, we were shooting our first wedding. A few years later, we were in the position to step away from our corporate careers and Kendal and Kevin Photography was born. The whole journey has honestly felt really natural and we are constantly pinching ourselves at the life we’ve created, enjoying the ride. Despite having shot close to 300 weddings together, it often feels as though we’re just getting started!

Last season’s weddings were a nice mixture of mountains and city celebrations. We shot at old favourites like Fairmont Banff Springs + Fairmont Palliser, and crossed off some bucket list venues like Island Lake Lodge in Fernie. We’re so grateful to get to shoot such a variety of celebrations, meet so many kind-hearted people and witness such beautiful moments. For all of the uncertainty in life, our couples consistently bring nothing but good vibes.

Our 2025 season started early with a beautiful Banff Wedding at the start of January, but in the past couple of months, we’ve been able to slow down and reflect. We had rebranding on the top of mind last year but it simply never happened. So Deja Vu, here we are with rebranding top of mind lol. We’ve always aimed to strike a balance between timelessness and staying cool (ish!) Our brand is well defined but we’re getting excited to breathe some fresh air and life into some updated branding. Strengthen our voice. The beautiful colours in nature, joyous energy, meanginful moments and timeless art; these are all key themes that have guided our ethos and will continue to do so. The process is underway and we’re so excited to share what happens on the other side!

We’re diving back into shooting weddings in a few short weeks (and can’t wait) but before we do so, here’s a look back at some 2024 magic. Enjoy Part I!
