Adeline + Jakob | Canada/USA Border Wedding | Alberta Wedding Photographers

Picture this… Blazing sun beating down on the rolling prairie hills as far as the eye can see with only a barbed wire fence cutting through the landscape. It just so happens that this barbed wire fence is also an international border between Canada and the USA… Adeline and her Dad held hands across this same fence as they walked down their ‘aisle’ toward Jakob in what turned out to be a stunning wedding celebration.

This is seriously a scene we never could have imagined until 2020. The pandemic may have seperated Adeline from her California home but these two worked tirelessly to not only make their marriage a reality but to ensure that both of their families could be there to celebrate with them. And that, they did! Coolers were brought via horseback, border control guards were watching on from a distance and Adeline + Jakobb were married on a blue skied Alberta (+ Montana?) day.

It was a reminder for us on how ‘the story’ of the day will always be the most important element in a wedding day and something we always try to focus on when capturing an event. From a photographer’s perspective, mid-day sun with no shade in sight is well, a bit daunting. But in the end their unique love story took over - it was awe inspiring to witness these two families reunite and celebrate love together given the circumstances.

At one point during speeches, Adeline’s sister said, ‘getting married at the border is not something anyone would dream of…’ and as true as that is, Adeline + Jakob’s wedding was actually a total dream and we’re honoured to have been a part of it all.
